Los Cold Blooded Yesterdays is an amalgam of Los Yesterdays, a seasoned Mexican American soul band from LA, and original members from Cold Blooded Express, a black southern soul outfit from the late 70s out of Jackson, Tennessee.
The original release of "You're the Life of Me" by Cold Blooded Express was released in 1978, and has become an elusive rare soul record sought after by collectors and soul fans alike.
This version of "You’re the Life of Me” was re-recorded in the legendary Sam Phillips Studios in Memphis, Tennessee in 2022, in collaboration with Howard Rambsy, the original label owner, producer and horn arranger for Cold-Blooded Express. The session included, Jimmie Morris Sr. (Al Green's first touring bassist), brass man Richard Griffin (founder of Galaxy), the great Lester Snell (Issac Hayes' main keyboardist) and guitarist Big Rod Hurts, bandleader for Lynn White.
The recording session will never be duplicated, as members Rod Hurts, Richard Griffin and Jimmie Morris Sr. have since passed away. This record is a piece of modern soul music history, that brings together Mexican American and Southern Black musicians in a collaboration that celebrates the power of music to unite communities, allying sweet southern Black soul music with the tradition of firme rolas from Southern California’s Raza community.
